In the case of homeowner’s insurance, you are probably not covered for flood damage in your homeowner’s policy. Flood coverage must be purchased separately, and differs from your homeowner’s policy in some significant ways. Typically, flood insurance is not as comprehensive as your homeowner’s policy: it usually doesn’t cover basement improvements, but does cover things like washers, dryers, ceilings and Sheetrock.
